Since his work in seminal Australian band Spot the Dog, Mark Cryle (guitar, mandolin, bass, vocals) has been acclaimed by music journalists as one of Australia’s leading songwriters. Mark’s work is held in such respect by his peers that he has recently been honoured by his musical community with a “tribute” cd on which other artists perform versions of his songs. I’ve Got a Heart adds to Mark’s canon of homegrown music – distinctly Australian, beautifully crafted and always insightful.
Mark is something of a musical chameleon. He loves nothing more than to pick up his guitar and play the Celtic music he grew up with.
Carmel Newman has played classical violin since she was three, performing with the Queensland Youth Orchestra. She was also guest soloist with the Queensland Theatre Orchestra at the tender age of ten years old. She went on to being a featured member of prominent Brisbane Celtic band Kilkenny throughout the late 1980s and 1990s.
A consummate live performer, Carmel’s sublime fiddle playing complements this act superbly. From racy reels to poignant airs, Carmel’s fiddle work will have you entranced. She also sings like an angel – a fallen angel perhaps, but an angel nonetheless.
In August 2015 Mark and Carmel recorded their first duo cd – The Taste of the Rain – a rich blend of traditional Celtic tunes and songs blended with Mark’s highly-acclaimed song writing.
Music for the head, the heart and for the feet, this duo will dazzle you with their rich musicality and keep any crowd engaged, entertained, singing along and baying for more.
